The teacher instructs the students that they will create a story together, and according to the picture on the cards the story will continue on.
The teacher picks the first card, for example, a cat. Then he/she starts the story…( here is you can work on the verb tense you need ). Simple present: I love cats. My dream is to have a brown cat. Simple past: my cousin Josh had a black cat… Future: Next week is my birthday I will get a white cat…
Then, the next student picks the next card and he/she has to fit the picture, whatever it is into the story.
The class goes on until all the students had their turns, as many times as the teacher thinks it is necessary.
Closure: It’s
interesting to end the story in a fun and unexpected way. The students love it
when the story goes crazy, like a fantasy movie. But, if it gets too tangled in
the end, I always say…and my cousin woke up and got relieved because it was
just a dream.
You can vary this activity
using it as a writing exercise. For sure, both ways, writing or speaking it’s
great to develop creativity.
