According to the website, https://writingexplained.org possessive adjectives are modifiers. They modify nouns, and the way they modify nouns is by showing ownership over them.

Adjective Possessives – Characteristics
- Define a noun.
- They are placed before the noun.
- They can’t be used alone.
- my house
- your car
- his shirt
- her Money
- our trip
- their kids

Possessive Nouns
Possessive nouns ( ‘S ) also modify the noun by giving possession.
- Aline’s car
- Jason’s job
- Steven’s problem
- The dog’s house
- The Greens‘ party

We can use both forms, adjective possessive or possessive nouns to talk about possession:
- Aline’s car = her car
- Jason’s job = his job
- Steven and Glen’s problem = their problem
- The dog’s house = its house
- The Green’s party = their party
WH question – Whose
We use the word question “Whose” when we want to know to whom something belongs to.
Whose car is it?
I want to know who is the owner of the car. We can answer this question in two different ways:
It’s Eva’s car.
It’s her car.
More examples:
Whose laptop is it?
It’s Michael’s laptop. = It’s his laptop.
Whose keys are they?
They are Sally’s keys. = They are her keys.
Whose boxes are those?
They are the students’ boxes. = They are their box!
